Library Databases
The library provides access to several essential databases and digital resources to support academic research, learning, and professional development. These databases are carefully curated to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and researchers, offering a wealth of information ranging from scholarly articles and e-books to tools for academic integrity and networking. Below is an overview of the key databases available through the library:
1. INFLIBNET – NLIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content):
- NLIST is a program by the INFLIBNET Centre that provides access to e-resources to colleges affiliated with universities in India. Through this initiative, the library offers access to a wide range of e-books and e-journals across various disciplines, including arts, science, commerce, and humanities.
- The NLIST subscription allows students and faculty to access over 6,000 e-journals and 31,35,000 e-books, facilitating research and academic work. This database is an invaluable resource for those looking for peer-reviewed articles, research papers, and up-to-date scholarly content.
2. DELNET (Developing Library Network):
- DELNET is a major resource-sharing library network in South Asia, providing access to a vast collection of bibliographic records, full-text journals, e-books, and other resources. DELNET enables the library to connect with a network of over 7,000 libraries, offering inter-library loans and document delivery services.
- This database is particularly useful for research scholars and faculty members who require access to resources beyond the library’s collection, as it allows them to borrow books and access articles from other member libraries across India and abroad.
3. Drillbit: Anti-Plagiarism Software:
- Drillbit is an advanced anti-plagiarism tool that helps maintain academic integrity by checking research papers, theses, and assignments for plagiarism. The software scans documents against a vast repository of scholarly articles, books, and web content to identify any copied or unoriginal text.
- This tool is essential for students and researchers to ensure their work is original and adheres to ethical standards in academic writing. It is also used by faculty to evaluate students' submissions, ensuring that all work submitted is authentic and properly cited.
4. Vidwan (Expert Database and National Researcher Network):
- Vidwan is an expert database and national researcher network developed by the INFLIBNET Centre. It provides comprehensive information about experts and researchers in various fields, including their academic backgrounds, research interests, publications, and contact details.
- This database is a valuable tool for faculty members and researchers at PGGCG- 42 to connect with other experts, collaborate on research projects, and stay updated on the latest developments in their fields. It also helps in forming academic networks and research collaborations at the national and international levels.
5. IRINS (Indian Research Information Network System):
- IRINS is a web-based research information management system developed by the INFLIBNET Centre. It is designed to showcase the research activities and publications of academic institutions and their researchers. The IRINS platform for PGGCG-42, accessible at https://gcg42.irins.org, provides detailed profiles of the college’s faculty members, including their research outputs, projects, collaborations, and academic achievements.
- This system enables the library to maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive database of the institution’s research activities, facilitating better visibility and access to research outputs. It also aids in fostering collaborations and partnerships by providing a transparent view of the expertise available within the institution.
These databases collectively enhance the library’s role as a center for knowledge and research at PGGCG-42, Chandigarh, providing invaluable resources that support academic excellence and the professional growth of its community.
